KIS Council
Kodaikanal International School is legally constituted as an association registered as a private company limited by guarantee and licensed under Section 25 of the Companies Act, 1956. While KIS does not have shareholders in the corporate sense, it has stakeholders in the form of parents, staff, students, alumni, volunteers and many others who support it in so many ways.
KIS Council of Directors is responsible to the Council of Management of the Association of Kodaikanal International School for the:
- Overall governance of KIS
- Setting of strategic KIS direction
- Review of plans and budgets established by KIS senior management
- Monitoring of performance against those plans and budgets
Responsibility for the operation and administration of KIS is delegated by the Council of Directors to the Principal. The KIS Council consists of at least 16 and no more than 25 members. Ex-officio members include the President of Kodai Friends International (KFI).
The major committees working under Council are the Executive Committee, Finance Committee and Nominating Committee. In addition there are an Advisory Committees for Project and Constitution Review. The full Council normally meets once every semester. The other Committees normally meet at least once each semester prior to the Council meeting.
The Nominating Committee is responsible for making recommendations for new appointments to Council. Appointments are made with the object of ensuring that the composition of Council provides as much breadth as possible in terms of expertise and interests
