Drama, film, fine arts, and photography are all powerful communication mediums as well as art forms. The VAPA department seeks to meld the PYP, MYP and IB and KIS Diploma Arts programs into an arcing and comprehensive curriculum which looks at the arts in historic, cultural and social light.

The various Arts subjects provide students with a forum to study the various artistic lenses through which knowledge, skills and attitudes from different cultural traditions are developed, assimilated and transmitted. Through exploration of a range of materials and technologies, the student seeks ways to develop an understanding of the technical, creative, expressive and communicative aspects of the arts.

The Arts, and Drama in particular, allow students to enhance vital life skills and creative thinking methods which will contribute to their success in any future endeavours. The Drama curriculum, offered to grades 6 through 12, focuses on learning artistic expression and building self-esteem, while improving language, communication, and risk-taking abilities. Students explore the many ways that storytelling and theatre have reflected global culture over time, learning how to tool the roots of physical and verbal expression to devise their own projects. Subjects covered in the KIS Drama curriculum include, but are not limited to: Pantomime, Puppetry, Page to Stage Productions, Street Theatre, Social Drama, Comedy, Classical Theatre, Musical Theatre, Playwriting, Technical Design and Acting for Film

The KIS VAPA department inspires students to be life-long appreciators of the Arts, as well as active participants and supporters of the many areas of artistic expression. Students of the Arts will gain vital life skills which will play an important role in their future careers.
